Scarlet Ribbons
02:12
|
|||
I peeked in to say goodnight
when I heard my child in prayer
"& for me, some scarlet ribbons
scarlet ribbons for my hair"
all the stores were closed and shuttered
all the streets they were dark & bare
& in our town, no scarlet ribbons
not one ribbon for her hair
through the night my heart was aching
before the dawn was breaking
in our town, no scarlet ribbons
no ribbons for her hair
I peeked in on her bed
& saw them lying there
lovely ribbons, scarlet ribbons
scarlet ribbons for her hair
if I live to be a hundred
I will never know from where
came those lovely scarlet ribbons
scarlet ribbons for her hair
those lovely scarlet ribbons
scarlet ribbons for her hair

Blue Christmas
01:38
|
|||
i'll have a blue christmas without you
i'll be so blue just thinking about you
decorations of red on a green christmas tree
won't be the same dear if you're not here with me
& when those blue snowflakes start falling
that's when those blue memories start calling
you'll be doing alright with your christmas of white
but i'll have a blue blue christmas
you'll be doing alright with your christmas of white
but i'll have a blue blue christmas

Pretty Paper
02:25
|
|||
pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue
wrap your presents to your darling from you
pretty pencils to write I love you
pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue
crowded street, busy feet, hustle by
downtown shoppers, christmas is neigh
there I sit all alone outside
hoping that you won't pass me by
should you stop? you better not, much too busy
you're in a hurry, my how time does fly
in the distance the ringing of laughter
in the midst of the laughter I cry
pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue
wrap your presents to your darling from you
pretty pencils to write I love you
pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue

I talked with a stranger, so sad and forlorn
He was dressed in sackcloth, all tattered and torn
He told me a story, of sorrow and woe
His heart went to heaven, at the first fall of snow
He spoke of his angel, a dear baby girl
He loved ev'ry footstep, he loved ev'ry curl
But she went to heaven, just one year ago
The angels came for her, at the first fall of snow
He still had the dolly that she used to love
He held and caressed it and gazed up above
He whispered, "My baby, you're waiting, I know
I'll bring you, your dolly at the first fall of snow"
And there as I listened, my eyes filled with tears
I know she was best part of his years
His body trembled, he spoke soft and low
"I'll be with my baby at the first fall of snow"
I patted his shoulder, my feelings I'd hide
He couldn't know I was dying inside
He smiled as we parted, 'cause he did not know
I too, had lost my baby, at the first fall of snow

Down in Yon Forest
02:23
|
|||
Down in yon forest there be a hall:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
covered all over with purple and pall:
Sing all good men for the newborn king.
In that hall is a pallet bed:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
stained with blood like scarlet red:
Sing all good men for the newborn king.
at that pallet is a stone:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
On which the virgin did atone:
Sing all good men for the newborn king.
Under that hall is a gushing flood:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
From Christ's own side, water and blood:
Sing all good men for the newborn king.
Beside that bed a shrub-tree that grows:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
Since he was born it blooms and blows:
Sing all good men for the newborn king.
On that bed a squire did slept:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
His wounds are sick, and sick he weeps:
Sing all good men for the newborn king.
Oh hail yon hall where none can sin:
The bells of heaven I heard them ring:
cause its gold & silver within:
All good men sing for the newborn king.

In the Bleak Midwinter
03:22
|
|||
oh,In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan;
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago.
Long ago.
Our God, heaven can't hold Him
Nor earth sustain,
Heaven and earth shall fall away
When He comes to reign:
In the bleak mid-winter
A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty —
Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ.
Angels and Archangels
May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
Thronged the air;
But only His Mother only
In her maiden bliss
Worshipped the Beloved
With a kiss.
With a kiss.
What can I give Him,
Poor as I am? —
If I were a Shepherd
I'd bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man
I would do my part, —
what I can I give Him, —
Give my heart.
Give my heart.

Lonely Night
02:26
|
|||
Silent night, lonely night
I don't have you for Christmas
Silent night, lonely night
I don't have you this year
But I'll have twelve long months to remember
And I'll have twelve long months to forget
And I've had a few lonely parties
But this is the loneliest yet
Silent night, lonely night
I won't have you this year
But I'll have twelve long months to remember
And I'll have twelve long months to forget
And I've had a few lonely parties
But this is the loneliest yet
Silent night, lonely night
I won't have you this year

The Christmas Wolf
03:07
|
|||
every year in late december
cold wind blows the snow past my door
shivering right beside the fire
I hear the howl of the christmas wolf
I know he's right outside dear
prowling in the freshly fallen snow
freezing fear griping my heart now
I hear the howl of the christmas wolf
the house is creeking & moaning
& the blood in my veins runs so cold
outside I hear him a'calling
I hear the howl of the christmas wolf
calling me out to the dark night
into the light of the moon
out in the freezing cold
I hear the howl of the christmas wolf
every year in late december
prowling in the freshly fallen snow
outside I hear him a'calling
I hear the howl of the christmas wolf
the howl of the christmas wolf
